Crane Conso, Senior Research Associate

Crane completed their graduate studies at Cal Poly Humboldt’s Psychology department in May 2022, working under Dr. Amber Gaffney to earn their Master's degree in Academic Research with a focus in Social Psychology. They were the 2022 recipient of the Patricia O. McConkey Outstanding Graduate Student award.

Crane’s research focuses on social identity theory, uncertainty, populism, and leader rhetoric. They are also responsible for leading a Humboldt County-wide survey on policing and policing oversight (partnering with several agencies). They currently work full-time as a Research Analyst, conducting regional community-based research and program evaluations at the California Center for Rural Policy (CCRP).

Crane serves the community as a Youth Outreach volunteer with Project Rebound, holding group sessions with incarcerated youth at the Humboldt County Juvenile Corrections Facility. They are also an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Psychology at Pennsylvania Western University in Pennsylvania, teaching History and Systems of Psychology with a critical lens. Additionally, they maintain a working relationship with Dr. Amber Gaffney’s Social Identity Lab as a Senior Research Associate.
